Desert Tale

Number 4, Volume 8

D-Day in Normandy - June 6, 1944

The salty brine from the sea on Omaha Beach, the sand between the windswept dune, the shrieks of the seagulls, and a silent desolation greeted the 76th Anniversary of D-Day in 2020.

Yet 76 years ago on this day, the sea was rough all the way to Arromanches, the sand was red with blood, and the screams were from soldiers, and blasting guns pierced their ears. Horrific slaughter greeted these young men.

An eerie atmosphere touches French, Polish, American, and British people who come to honor their dead on foreign soil, and revere their ultimate sacrifice at Saint-Laurent-Sur-Mer.

They come to pay their respects and gratitude to their dead who fought fascism to end WW2; a war my family cannot forget. I write this with an overwhelming sadness and a heavy heart so that future generations will know they must plant flags and flowers to cherish the memory of these brave men and honor the souls who refused to let hate prevail.
